Trend of the Moment: Skin

Men’s fashion in Los Angeles has taking an interesting turn. At my favorite shops, I'm seeing more styles that have usually been designed for women. Extra low-cut armholes and draping necklines are increasingly popular in men's contemporary fashion. Love it!

His & Hers Skin Care

Maya's Favorite Skin Care Products

Powdered Soy Milk

My ultimate face cleanser for winter is powdered soy milk. This is an ideal cleanser for the removal of make-up, even the toughest mascara ladies! At night I make a paste using a teaspoon of lukewarm water and gently exfoliate. When I wake up my skin looks clear and feels hydrated. Milk is rich in vitamins A, D and lactic acid, resulting in younger looking skin. Lactic acid contains beta-hydroxyl acid which is extremely efficient in exfoliating the skin while maintaining its smoothness.
Tip: It has been reported Cleopatra took milk baths daily for her beauty and complexion.

Desert Essence Gentle Stimulating Facial Scrub

Due to my dry skin, I use this product twice a week. I take a dime size portion and apply it to my fingertips, gently exfoliating in a circular motion, avoiding the eye area. I leave the scrub on for five minutes and rinse off with lukewarm water, pat dry. This product contains jojoba oil and almond meal which are great for stimulation and removing dead skin cells. Natural exfoliators ; jojoba seed and almond meal keep my complexion healthy and radiant.

Origins Brighter By Nature

Love... love... love Skin Tone Correcting Serum by Origins! This lightweight lotion is ideal for any season. It gives my face a healthy glow and primes the skin for a flawless make-up application. Less is more with this product, a little goes a long way. I use this in the morning, preferring my skin to breathe at night. This clinically proven plant serum with Japanese basil leaf and naturally derived vitamin C helps to create a more even skin tone.

Now Solutions Castor Oil

Castor oil is optional, I use it during severely cold weather. I apply the oil before putting on make-up to create a dewy finish. Castor oil is an all natural emollient which therapeutically helps support and soften my skin. I appreciate this product because it's a multi-purpose oil, it can be used for massaging, moisturizing and softening the hair. This product is 100% expeller-pressed castor oil from the seed of Ricinus Communis.
Tip: It is commonly used in some of today's most popular cosmetic and beauty formulas.

With all the skin care products, inner beauty is most important. Every morning we should reflect on loving ourselves and say, "I'm beautiful."

Ed’s Favorite Skin Care Products

 Dove ® White Beauty Bar

Being a guy doesn’t mean you shouldn’t care about your face, it's okay to try products marketed towards women. In other words, don’t be afraid of the terms; sensitive, beauty and gentle. I've tried different washes ranging in prices, now at 30, I've realized it's about quality not quantity. Dove ® Beauty Bar has become a staple for my face care, it contains ¼ moisturizing cream leaving my skin with a fresh glow and a great soothing feeling all guys can appreciate (especially after shaving). I use it daily with lukewarm water to open up my pores and rinse with cold water to eliminate extra toxins.
Tip: Use this product as an alternative to your shaving cream and save money.

 Loofah Sponge

Loofah what? The luffa plant originated from India and the Middle East; it's known to help remove dead cells, enhance circulation and promote the excretory function of the skin. I grew up using this product as a body scrub, it is commonly used by men and women in Nicaragua (where my family is from). However, I never thought of using it on my face until I decided to stop using chemical scrubs. I must say, this was the best choice for my oily/combination skin. I gently scrub my face with the loofah sponge and Dove ® soap every other day or after a sweaty session at the gym; washing with warm water and rinsing with cold. This leaves my skin with a youthful appearance. I highly recommend it!
Tip: Some Loofah's are rough when new, fill a bowl with hot water and soak for 2 to 3 hours before use.

Neutrogena Healthy Skin ® Anti-Wrinkle Cream

The signs of aging begin to show as we get older, let’s face it, guy or girl we all want younger skin. After using this product for 2 weeks, people guessed my age to be 25. I knew I had a winner! Retinol is an anti-oxidant that fights off damaging free radicals and stimulates collagen formation. The result is smoother, finer textured skin that improves the appearance of wrinkles. Neutrogena is a brand I've used over the years and this light cream has become my moisturizer of choice.
Tip: Only use in the morning or before you go out. Allow your skin to breathe while you sleep.

The essential ingredient to any regimen is to drink plenty of water. We hope that our skin care tips will help.
